Going through a divorce is hard enough without feeling like you are just a case number to your lawyer. The team at Kasih Guaman treated me as a person from the first phone call. They explained every step in terms I actually understood, and I never felt pressured to rush decisions. The matter took about five months, which they had told me to expect. I am grateful for how they handled it.

I came in for a consultation not knowing what to expect, and left with a clear picture of my options. The lawyer was honest about the likely timeline and costs, which I appreciated — no vague promises. There were a few delays in getting documents signed because of the other party, but the firm kept me informed throughout rather than leaving me guessing. Would use them again.

My children's custody arrangement was the most stressful thing I have ever dealt with. Ahmad (their senior associate) was patient and kept reminding me that the process, while slow, was moving. What mattered most to me was that the children's wellbeing was at the centre of every decision — and that is genuinely how they approached it. We reached an arrangement both parents could accept.

I was referred by a friend who had used them for his own divorce. They suggested mediation first, which I had not considered, and it actually worked. Saved a lot of time and cost compared to going to court. The mediator (Siti) was calm and kept both parties focused. I would recommend starting with the consultation if you are unsure — it helped me understand the lay of the land.

My situation involved getting a maintenance order enforced after it had been ignored for several months. The process was more drawn-out than I had hoped, but Nadia was upfront about why and kept pushing it forward. The outcome was positive — the order was enforced and arrears recovered. I appreciated that they did not oversell what was possible.

I needed help understanding the access arrangement for my son after separation. The fee for the initial consultation was fair, and I left with a real sense of what was possible and what was not. They were honest — they told me some of what I wanted might not be achievable given the circumstances, and they were right to manage my expectations. That honesty was worth more to me than empty reassurance.

Case Summaries
Three anonymised examples of how we have helped families navigate different types of legal matters.
The Challenge
Uncontested Divorce with Asset Division
A couple from Kuala Lumpur had reached a mutual decision to separate after 11 years of marriage. They agreed on the principle of divorce but needed structured legal support to formalise their arrangements around a jointly owned property and a car.
Our Approach
We facilitated a joint consultation with both parties to document their agreed positions clearly. We then handled the preparation and filing of all court documents, and liaised with the Land Office on the property transfer. Both parties attended a single court hearing.
Outcome
Decree Nisi granted within 4 months. Property transfer completed simultaneously. The couple parted without litigation, and both reported the process was less stressful than they had feared.
"It was not easy, but it was manageable. Knowing what was happening at each stage helped a lot."
The Challenge
Custody Dispute with Multiple Issues
A mother in Selangor needed legal help after separation from her spouse. The central issues were the day-to-day care of two school-age children, access arrangements for the other parent, and unpaid maintenance.
Our Approach
We initially explored mediation on the access arrangement, which produced agreement on school-day access. Custody and maintenance required a court application. We prepared the necessary affidavits and represented our client at two case management hearings before the matter was resolved at a consent order stage.
Outcome
Sole custody with generous access for the father formalised by consent order. Monthly maintenance order made and has since been honoured. Total duration: 7 months from initial consultation to consent order.
"The team kept the focus on my children, not on winning. That is what I needed."
The Challenge
Mediation Preventing Contested Proceedings
A couple in KL had reached an impasse on division of assets and access to a teenage child. Both had instructed separate solicitors, and the matter appeared headed for contested proceedings, which would have been lengthy and costly.
Our Approach
We proposed mediation as an alternative and the other side agreed. Three mediation sessions over six weeks covered the asset division, maintenance, and access. Our certified mediator maintained a structured but relaxed environment and helped both parties arrive at positions they could accept.
Outcome
Full agreement reached in mediation. Signed into a consent order within the following month. Avoided what would likely have been 12–18 months of contested proceedings. Both parties saved significant legal costs.
"I wish we had tried mediation first. It was a better experience than I expected."
